Nokia E71x Slim QWERTY Smartphone to Launch for AT&T

AT&T, the nation's largest telecommunications company, plans to launch the Nokia E71x, its thinnest smartphone, in the coming months.

The Finnish company said the E71x features a black steel finish and award-winning design.

Similar to traditional BlackBerry devices in looks, the E71x is a sleeker 10mm thick. It has a QWERTY keyboard for corporate email access via regular wireless networks and Wi-Fi hotspots at cafes and airports.

The smartphone has a built-in Global Positioning System for turn-by-turn voice directions and maps with fast traffic re-routing.

Based on S60 on the Symbian OS, it supports a wide range of applications. Mail for Exchange syncs corporate email, contacts, calendar and tasks in real time, while Xpress Mail supports personal email such as Yahoo! Mail, AOL and Windows Live Hotmail.

Onboard mobile instant messaging provides AOL and AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.

A built-in 3.2-megapixel digital camera with auto-focus and flash can share live or recorded video during a call. It also features a music player, a video camera, and a memory card slot.

The focus in the handset market has steadily shifted to smartphones, as carriers look towards feature-packed devices to generate more data revenue.
